Description
Romsey Red Path Gravel is a 40mm down clay-bound gravel made by screening Hoggin. This process removes larger pieces, making it well-suited for home landscaping. It is ideal for creating garden paths, patios, and driveways, giving a natural finish to any landscape.
This product was first produced in Romsey, Hampshire, which is where it got its name. Although production moved elsewhere years ago, ‘Romsey Red’ remains in use locally.
Romsey path gravel’s clay base binds the material for a hard surface. Apply a 50mm layer over compacted MOT Type 1 for best durability. This gives a stable, long-lasting surface. Leave 10-15mm above the desired height for compaction. Ideally, use a heavy roller to compact the surface, especially in wet conditions. After compaction, you can dampen the gravel to help it bind and start to remove the surface clay. After rain, the gravel settles and turns golden brown.
Self-binding path Gravel offers a natural gravel look with a firmer finish, giving gardens a bright, modern feel. It is soft in appearance but hard-wearing, often used around heritage and stately homes. Maintain its durability by topping up gravel and re-compacting after bad weather. Occasionally, weeding and adding fresh gravel every few years keep paths looking good.
This product is suitable for driveways & paths and will offer a hard walkable / drivable surface, unlike deep shingle surfaces, that can end up like Brighton beach.
