Preparation and Planning

To begin with, once the area to be tiled is decided and you know what and where you are tiling it is a good idea to re-measure the area and ensure you have all the correct tools and materials ready before you start tiling.

Ensure where possible, all fixtures and fittings that are to be removed, or can be removed have been and that all surfaces to be tiled are clear from any loose debris and dust and are not damp or unstable.

Asses whether a primer is to be needed to prepare the floor for taking adhesive (particularly common for freshly screeded floors).
Where underfloor heating is to be installed, always follow the manufacturers guidelines using the correct and suitable adhesives and fixing materials, and allow time to dry where necessary.

Also where a decoupling or waterproof membrane is to be used follow the manufacturers installation guidelines and allow this to dry, or to be ready to tile over
